Introduction

Dark Horizons Universe

developed by Max Gaming Technologies Inc

Our future is not the shining beacon of hope and light that we had hoped.

Mankind is not the benevolent, enlightened race once strived for by the governments of the world. It still remains to this day a corrupt and selfish race, concerned more with the individual gains than the greater good. Through hundreds of years of war, conflict and conquest we have devastated our home planet and fundamentally altered our race through both genetic and technological achievements that we sought to further mankind, playing god with the human gnome.

When the time came for mankind to move out into the stars, in the hope of once again finding a future for ourselves that would play to our corrupt needs and wants. We used our technology once again to create whole new sub-species of mankind, modified to best suit the needs that we required them to perform, be it for our military, industry or colonization efforts. Although this fundamental altering of the human species is what allowed us to create the orbital space stations, colonize & terraform planets and moons in our solar system and explore the nearby star systems in our galaxy. No one at the time could have ever imaged the cost.

In the year 2610, mankind is still at war with itself, squabbling amongst its many factions over what resources can best suit its needs. Little did they realize that this was the year that mankind was going to pay its dues for all it had done in the past 600 years. For this was the year that the some of children that mankind created to rebuild its future returned to show the result of the lessons of greed, corruption, war and conquest that we had taught them. The timeline had been set, now all that was left was to let it play out and see the result

Game Features

- Dark Horizons Universe is a Massively multi-player action game that combines elements of the first/third person action genre with the character development, role playing and story aspects found in current Massively Multi-player games. The result of which we feel will allow for quick adoption and appeal by a mass market of players.

- Character creation & leveling. Player's can choose to play from a variety of races and arch types (a simple set of introductory character classes). As the player participates in the game they can evolve (level) their character through persistent game play into a prestige class that best suits their style of play and the character that they wish to be.

- Skill based game play. Allowing players to move away from pure twitch based game play and instead rely on their ability to react combined with their character's own set of skills and abilities to accomplish tasks that they face. This will allow for highly visual, action based game play that anyone regardless of personal skill or experience can enjoy.

- Action oriented 3rd person camera view (from behind the player) will give the player a feel similar to what they find in current MMO games as well as in more mainstream action games such as Gears of War. A secondary benefit of having the game played in the third person perspective is that it gives the player a greater sense of immersion in the game since they can see their character and how it interacts with the visually stimulating environment that they are in.

- Player versus Player (PVP) gaming will allow players to compete in a serious of team based battle zones where the players will not only compete against one another for a victory condition in the battlezone. Players can also pick up and participate in additional random sub-missions withing a battle zone that will allow them to unlock elements of the game story mode, as well as gain access to beneficial items that will assist them in winning the mission.

- Player versus Environment (PVE) play will allow the players to enter into a variety of game play battle zones that will allow them to play out portions of the games story online. Players can enter into zones specific to their characters level of experience or group with a set of friends to participate in an instanced portion of the story where they need to combine their unique set of skills and abilities together to further the story of the game along as well as earn additional items and gear to help them in future play.

- Mixed PVP and PVE rewards and story system. This will encourage players to participate in both modes of game play to not only further the games story for their own character but to also allow the player to unlock and gain access to unique equipment, skills or abilities that are only available from playing in both modes of game play.

- Episodic and downloadable content, allowing for a continued extension and growth of the game well beyond its initial release. This will create an added value that will keep players coming back for more as well as help foster a community of players. As an added bonus hardware and software companies that we partner with can benefit and help market the game by having their latest technology showcased within the game the moment it is available on the market, ensuring that Dark Horizons Universe stays vibrant and cutting edge.

- Players will be able to craft or create certain items using various skills that they can learn and level while they play. These items can give both a long or short term boost to their character or equipment.

- Pilot vehicles such at APCs, motor bikes or Tanks, utilize powered suit of body armor of fly planes or helicopters. Then get involved with a friends of peers online to form a unit/squad to participate in both the PVE and PVP portions of the game.

Target Audience

Dark Horizons Universe is aimed primarily at a male audience between the ages of 14 and 30. We feel that this player will be familiar with online games from games they have played such as Quake 4, Battlefield 2142 and Gears of Wars though may not necessarily have experienced a massively multi-player game. The main entry point that we feel that will best target this group of players will be the persistent online game world involved in the PVP aspect of the game. This particular game mode gives them the feeling of the action based games that the demographic enjoys while providing persistent MMO feedback and unique randomness of the PVP mission set.

Our Design Goals & Other Achievements That We Want to Hit

- Further introduce the gaming market to the world of Dark Horizons, an IP that Max Gaming Technologies inc. develops, ownes and controls. It is our hope that we can continue to grow the brand name and recognition with each game that is released under this franchise to the point where it is a highly coveted and recognizable brand on the market.

- A consistent subscriber rate of at least 20,000 players each month.

- Gain additional experience in the MMO market, which we feel is an evolutionary step for our company since we are already experianced in developing online games that are in similar genres.

- Successfully integrate the skills, character growth and positive social and persistent features found in massively mulitplayer games into what is seen as a static action based gaming genre.

- Generate more cross media products that can tie into the Dark Horizons Universe such as role-playing books.

Unique Selling Points

- Conbines both the action based shooter genre with the persistent online play found in massively multi-player games. This opens up numerous possibilities that will allow greater immersion in the game world through social, story telling and questing.

- Skills based learning system allowing for a highly customized player driven character development system.

- Always the latest and greatest.
