See the Multiverse website for registration and links to download the Multiverse Client installer.
Installation
To install the client, simply run the Multiverse Client installer. The installer will create some shortcuts in the Start Menu and on your desktop.
Running the Multiverse Client
To run the Multiverse Client, double-click on the desktop icon. By default, you will then connect to the Multiverse master server which will prompt to log in to The Multiverse Network. Then, you can choose one of the Multiverse Demo Worlds; the client will initially download the media assets for that world.
When developing a game, you will generally bypass the Multiverse master server, and connect directly to your own game server. For more information on how the client connects to the Multiverse servers, see How a Client Connects to a World.
If you are ready to install the servers and tools, see Platform Tutorial Getting Started.
Configuring the Client
The frist time you run the Multiverse Client, it will initially display the Graphics Configuration dialog box.
Subsequently, to display the Graphics Configuration dialog box, either:
- Choose All Programs | Multiverse Client | Multiverse Configuration from the Start menu.
- Run the Client from the command line and use the
--configcommand-line argument. See Running the Client from the Command-Line for information.
The Graphics Configuration dialog box looks like this:
The Graphics Configuration dialog box enables you to set:
- Video Mode: display resolution and color depth. The client checks the graphics hardware to get the set of options displayed.
- Anti-aliasing: whether the client uses anti-aliasing, and if so, what quality. The client displays a list of quality settings that the graphics card supports.
- Full Screen: whether the client runs in full-screen mode.
- Video Sync - If enabled, the client frame rate will be synchronized with the video retrace, with a maximum of 60 frames per second (FPS). If not enabled, the frame rate will not be limited, but in rare cases artifacts may occur where the top half of the screen may come from a different frame than the bottom half.
- NVPerfHUD - Whether you are running the NVIDIA PerfHUD real-time Direct3D performance analysis tool.
Choose your desired options, and click OK. From then on, the client will use the specified options.
