Although the Feeling Software website has more recent versions of the plug-in, Multiverse has tested version 3.04c.
Download the plugin, then run the installer. Before installing the ColladaMax plugin, exit 3ds Max.
3dsMax 2009 has a new plug-in. 3.05C.exe Download
For more information on the ColladaMax plugin, see Feeling Software - ColladaMax documentation.
Prerequisite
The Feeling Software website has this note: "Cg 1.5 must be installed prior to running ColladaMax. It's a free download from NVIDIA's web site. We suggest you get the latest version."
3ds Max version 9
Although 3ds Max 9 includes a "built-in" FBX Exporter plug-in that creates COLLADA (.dae) files, it does not work properly, so you must install the ColladaMax plugin from Feeling Software to create models that you can convert to Multiverse format.
You will likely need to manually edit materials exported from 3ds Max 9. Occasionally, after exporting, a model will appear incorrect in the viewport (specifically after being moved). This corruption persists in the model if it is saved. If you encounter this, do not save your model after exporting.
NOTE: The ColladaMax plugin does not work properly for models that include vertex coloring or lighting. To get Vertex coloring the you must use the built-in FBX/DAE exporter.
3ds versions 7 and 8
If you are using 3ds Max 7 or 8, install the ColladaMax plugin to export models and animations from 3ds Max. Note: Doomsberg reccomends using version 3.03j instead of 3.04c for the Collada Exporter. Multiple teams (including Doomsberg Entertainment) have had trouble when exporting bipeds or bones with the 3.04c version.
Download the FBX exporter from Autodesk. If you encounter issues with the Autodesk exporter, follow the instructions below to use the ColladaMax exporter instead.
