A virtual world lies open and ready for you to explore, develop and expand the boundaries of mankind beyond our planet. Designed with freedom and opportunity for open ended gameplay, Project Mars gives you the tools and resources to exercise your creativity and curiosity in a persistent, vibrant and rich world inhabited by thousands of other fellow Martian colonists.

You may choose to explore the vast landscape, perhaps to be the first human to reach the top of Mons Olympus or explore the depths of Valles Marineris. Search the planet for raw materials in high demand by other colonists, selling them on the global MarsNet market. Or perhaps you wish to settle down in simple habitats designed for an individual, or even massive domes filled with breathable air, trees, and other amenities that become large social spaces that attract other players.

Project Mars does not limit you to only follow a story written by others, but allows you to create your own story as you interact with the Martian environment and other players as you explore, trade, share, and work together towards the goal of building Mars into a new home for mankind.

New Frontiers in Education

In collaborative groups or by themselves, the public, students and teachers alike can interactively explore the Martian landscape and NASA space exploration concepts in Project Mars. They will be inspired by stories of mankind's past, present and future exploration of Mars while immersed and engaged in a believable and realistic virtual presence. There, players will develop a better science literacy and technology education as they work with the engineering and mathematical challenges of future planetary colonization and exploration on Mars.

New Frontiers in Simulation

Based on the latest NASA digital elevation data, satellite imagery and research findings, Project Mars gives the research or exploratory scientist a new type of immersive collaboratory for distributed conferencing, data sharing and situational visualization. Built on the latest in Massive Multiplayer Online Game technologies, the intuitive environment and simple user interface inherited from computer games provides an excellent platform for natural interaction and even socialization between dispersed researchers and scientists.
