The following samples demonstrate the capabilties of the tools.

The zip file contains three files:

  • kothuria-beta-island.csv - this is a seed heightmap that can be loaded into the Terrain Generator. You will need to check the "Use Seed Map" checkbox after loading for it to effect the main fractal terrain view.
  • kothuria-beta-island.mvt - this is a full terrain file that includes the seed heightmap and fractal parameter settings that we use in Kothuria. You can load it into the Terrain Generator or the World Editor. It shows how you would make an island that is surrounded by water.
  • wall-world.mvt - I threw this terrain together in a few minutes, to show how you might create a map that is surrounded by mountains to contain the players. It also features a volcano. Everybody loves a volcano. Sorry, no lava or smoke yet.
  • wall-world-village.mvw - This is the wall-world terrain, with a village, road, forests, and a lake added in the World Editor. I added the stuff near the edge of the world, so you will need to rotate the camera around until you see some dots off in the distance (off the edge of the displayed terrain), then move the camera over towards them. It took me about an hour to make the terrain and place stuff in the world, and about half that time was building the stockade wall around the town. In the future we should have a snap-to function that will make it easier to connect pieces like the wall.

If you play with that final sample, you may run into a known bug in the World Editor, in which boundary highlighting may mess up the display of roads.
